THE LETTER (by joud abu rashed)

image

Words: A single distinct meaningful element of speech or writing, used with others (or sometimes alone) to form a sentence and typically shown with a space on either side when written or printed. Words are a way to express one’s self, they show emotion, they might hurt someone, end relationships, start wars, they can be used as a weapon, since words are an important factor of both freedom and democracy, but most importantly words impact people, either negatively or positively depending on the situation. the war has ended a year ago marking a new age of democracy, it started since poverty was spreading like an illness due to the evils of monarchy so naturally the people protested their rights using their words but they weren’t heard the government was deaf to their pleas so a war eventually broke out in order to gain justice. Chaos and confusion that’s was how I lived after all I was a child an orphan who lost both parents and any sense of peace or security I ever had. I was lost, starving, with no will to live in this cruel world. Along with the bloodshed, something happened or rather someone came and rescued me.

His name was Ashton Arlert, He was a kind man with a heart of gold. He took me in, provided me with every necessity. He taught me how to read and write, how to use a gun and protect myself just in case I find myself in a difficult position, but most importantly he gave me a will, a will to live. After years of suffering the war ended which lead me to decide to live a normal life, so I moved out to pursue my own career as a ghostwriter in a small company. You see after the war there was a huge decrease in people who knew how to write, which meant ghostwriters (especially for letters) became widely popular. My job required me to listen to people, to observe and analyze their emotions then find the right words that fit the message they want to present. I had my own life, friends, responsibilities, etc  yet Ashton never left my mind, he was like a father to me and I never showed him how much I appreciated what he had done towards me so I decided to write a letter to him. I was a professional writer with tons of experience yet I struggled with it (ironic isn’t it). For days and days all I would do is stare at an empty piece of paper with a cramped hand longing for words. Needless to say I was frustrated. I wrote and I wrote as if I was running out of time but nothing, just nothing. Everything I wrote would soon become another crumpled piece of paper in the trash, till one day while the smell of my morning coffee was mixing with the smell of ink coming from my pen I suddenly found the words that I longed for. I ran to the post office with the feeling of  relief in my lungs and a hint of excitement in my eyes. It was a quite night when he received the wax sealed letter, he looked at the handwriting a sense of nostalgia flooded him. He held it with his wrinkled hands as he read it with tears flooding his ocean blue eyes. The letter simply said “Thank you, Ashton, for everything. Sincerely Nadia” A simple phrase that’s all it took to bring a grown man to tears.

Hare with young, oil on panel, Henriette Ronner-Knip (1821-1909)

Whoosh, whoosh. This is, now, the time when sun holds its highest place in the sky. this is when you step through the warm field of blooming poppies, lily sprouts, and tulip buds.

On this path of nurturing life, growth awaits you, welcomes vitality. Make a wish for a spark of life. Whether you seek a bountiful harvest, the blossoming of youth or fertility, The path of the hare leads you to the temple. Encounter his effigy. Offer him your devotion. Present your prayer.

When your wishes align with nature’s rhythm, only the hare can satisfy it. Always leave offerings—young fruit trees, tender buds or fresh herbage—to display your gratitude.

Ch. 2: Bambino

₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊

word count: 922

tags: found family, nothing much really just a kid telling his baby brothers a story :)

a/n: as always, i have no beta-reader, no proof-reader- we die like real men. also, the story is told from Monet's perspective while the turtles are at most 5 or 6 and they're a young teen so they're putting it in a way they might understand while also reminiscing on the past way too much. Monet is also the oldest and took after Splinter the most with the way they speak (this might also be an excuse on why reading this might feel cliche, I'm sorry, i'm stuck in 2017) and now, enjoy!

𝕊𝔼𝕃𝔼ℕ𝔼

A lonely man walked into the pet store. I expected to see a child behind him- dragging him by the hand, demanding for a fish to keep as a pet that would probably die in a week or to play with the puppies that jumped around next to the window so that passerbyers would be tempted to adopt one. He seemed tired, heavy eye bags underneath piercing dark eyes and yet he had this gentle smile on his lips. I don't think I will ever forget that smile.

I watched as he walked towards the reptile section, the very section I was resting in underneath my flickering hearing lamp. He glanced around, his reflection bouncing off the glass of the terrariums full of the animals I have watched come and go. None of them seem to catch his interest surprisingly, not even the pretty ones with patterns so colorful they were overwhelming to the eye. He caught my attention, I wanted to follow him around just to see what he might be looking for, maybe he just wanted to see what pets were available for a later date or he was one of those strange college students who came to just watch the lizards and not buy anything at all. I felt myself overthinking so much that I didn’t realize he was standing over the new baby turtle’s enclosure until I glanced his way again. There was a soft glow in his eyes as he knelt down to look at them closely. I remember when those turtles first came into the store, these tiny little eggs with colored markings, watching them hatch and be fed their first pellets. Was he going to take them home? Hopefully, it would be better if he bought all four of them instead of them being separated because an irresponsible child wanted to neglect a pet turtle. I wonder if he might want a fifth, an older turtle who no one wanted. Probably not.

The man smiled one last time before he walked away towards the counter, sparking up a small conversation with the owner of the pet store. She was an older lady, a nice lady, treats us well. I couldn’t hear their conversation from here so I just went back to munching on the fresh celery that was left in my bowl and on the shrub flooring. Someday, someone will want to take me home. I think about that day a lot, especially everytime the others get picked.

Some time went by before the old lady and the man were scooping up all four of the baby turtles and into a smaller glass enclosure so he could take them home. At least, he didn't separate them but then they looked towards me. This strange man motioned his hands in my direction and I honestly sat there a bit confused, celery hanging from my mouth, if I was as sentient as I am now I'd probably be pointing a finger to plastron and going ‘me’?. The old lady started rambling about how I was an old turtle who no one wanted and she was kind enough to keep me around as her own pet but even she couldn't hang onto me for much longer, always making down my price to the point I could just be tossed into the arms of the next customer. I watched as he stared at me for a while before he turned his back to my face and asked to take me home alongside the baby turtles.

The old lady's face beamed with joy as she made her way over and scooped me up, pressing her lips to my shell. The smell of her cheap perfume and powder overwhelming my senses.

“My dear, you're finally going home and with such a kind man”

A chirp left my beak as she took off the scarf around her neck and bundled me up, handing me over to the man who accepted me with no hesitation. After so many years, so many strange faces and sighs, someone is taking me home. I watched as the transaction went through before he waved goodbye to the old lady and I listened as I heard the bell hanging above the door ring one last time. I was a pet.

And then came the part Splinter has spoken about every single time Michaelangelo asks how we came to be.

“Hey! It's a cool story, Momo, now tell us!”

“I know Mikey, I know, I'm getting there”

I don't remember much, just the heavy footsteps that caught up to the man after he had sneaked around trying to follow but I can remember the force of his punches as he fought back when he was cornered. The man held onto us as tightly as he could before being outnumbered and he dropped the enclosure and myself onto the concrete. First there was the sound of glass shattering and then suddenly this green ooze was covering our bodies including his own. He yelled out in anguish and I felt my body shift in so many strange ways that caused me to throw up on the concrete, I didn’t even know turtles could throw up. When I turned around, the man had turned into this giant rat and you were all much bigger than the baby turtles I had watched crack out of their shells, this ooze was the start of a new life for all of us, a life of running and hiding…until we ended up here, in our home.

Sent marking the lost boys + Star

How the boys and Star would react to you going up to them and rubbing up them to mark them with your sent ( NOT PISSING ON THEM )

No pronouns used

I %100 think they would do this to you first, but anyway...

Marko : is so confused. He thought you were coming over to cuddle with him so he opened his arms to you. But then you just started aggressively rubbing your skin on his, without a word. After like a minute you walked away and he was left there thinking 'what just happened?!?!'.(he looked to the others for an answer but they were all distracted by other things to see it happen)

Paul : is as horny as always.🙄 at first he's confused but figures it's a sexual thing so he lets it happen. He tries to do something back to return the favor but you shut him down. So he just tries his best to enjoy the attention from you. Then you walk away like nothing happened and he decides its best to not ask questions. ( seeing paul accept what happened so fast makes Marko even more confused)

Dwayne : likes it. It only takes him a second to figure out what your doing and he likes it. He thinks it sweet that you love them enough to mark what's yours. He enjoys every second of it but when you try to walk away he stops you. You think you can sent mark him and just walk away? Nope. He's pulling you into his lap holding you there with a bear trap like grip. Your cuddling for the rest of the night

David : is competitive. He lets you mark him for all of 2 seconds before he stops you and starts to sent mark you harder. You don't let that stop you, so you try harder as well. It looks absolutely ridiculous, but by the end you both smell equally like the other. Satisfied you walk away, but expect him to sent mark you alot more now that he knows your doing it to them.

Star : is ticklish. You walk up to her and within a few seconds all you can hear is her laughter echoing throughout the cave. She's also curious 🤔 so when your done she'll be the only one to ask you what you did and why. Once your done explaining it to her, she gets excited and asks to mark you back. You happily ablige her and laugh too as you feel just ticklish.

Part 2 to this

Been looking at the Roman Gods recently and things like syncretism and how different their parentages are and it’s funny that I find out in some versions, Mercury (Hermes) dad is actually Caelus (Ouranos).

Which kinda put me into a bit of a rabbit hole because while I don’t believe the Romans had a great prophecy I do think I could work a prophecy of the “eldest gods” into it.

Because in this AU the Romans don’t really have “Great Prophecies” not really. They more so have Great Wars instead that may or may not have been prophecies but they don’t really have great prophecies like the Greeks do, not really.

Anyways, a few other things I wanted to do was have their be some sort of unofficial hierarchy I guess?

Because mostly in new Rome, there are like three main groups.

- Old Blood, which is considered at the top. They’re usually the ones in the senate. Think of them as the equivalent of like rich white people I guess. They’re typically legacies of powerful and important gods like Venus, Janus, Jupiter, and Juno just to name a few. They’re typically attached to older values and these were the ones which supported Octavian in the Second Giant War. They usually don’t have a lot of abilities involving fighting, but are more charismatic and have a way of words over the common people and the senate.

- Demigods of Gods in Triads (Jupiter, Janus, Juno, Minerva, Venus, and Mars aka the Capitoline Triad and Archaic Triad + Venus) They’re sort of in the middle and can overlap with Old Bloods. They’re typically treated with high respect because of their parents but typically don’t get any special favors compared to Old Bloods. They usually have more fighting prowess compared to Old Bloods and if they’re in a Cohort, they’re usually the Centurion (because they’re expected to, but these types of demigods from triad gods are rare so)

- Literally everyone else

- Children of Neptune (mostly by old bloods and senate, just because of the Romans aversion and experience with the sea in old times), Dis Pater, Pluto (because their association with Death), and Diana Nemorensis (and any gods/goddess heavily related to forests which I may have missed because of her association with forests which the Romans didn’t particularly like and were sort of afraid of.

I do enjoy stories where other demigods are just startled or unsettled by other demigods because of their parentage and I wanted to add that to CJ too so I wanted to incorporate that here by looking up things ancient Roman were vary and afraid of and throwing it there. I think I’m about to start working on characters for CJ since that’s gonna be the main thing I need to do since we have nothing on what happened during the 2nd Titan war, then I can move onto the mist lifting and the implications of that. Then I can finally write!

Random 2:30 Thought

So I'm just up thinking and honestly I'm thinking about HOO and like, what if the conflict between the Greek and Roman camps was bigger than what it was.

Like, thinking about a way to integrate the Ottomans and Franks (I wanted to put Byzantine but they didn't have a religion pre Christianity and I'm sure not sure how that would be integrated, maybe in a way similar to Egyptian magicians??)

Because the Greeks have a long history outside of Romans and basically struggled for true independence for a very long time.

Could possibly develop an issue that goes deeper than the Athena Parthenos, grudges of the ancestors still being carried by modern demigods, just because they were told to hate these people.

Have the Seven be a mixture of all of these (could get a magnus chase crossover with the Franks since their religion was essentially of Norse origin I think lol.)

We have characters learning to overcome their prejudice and going through conflicts. Having one character (probably Percy) being the one to truly bring everyone together. The Uniter of [insert some cool title here] and bringing everyone together.

Them trying not to fall apart in the inevitable Tartarus fall and them pulling themselves back together on their way to the house of hades and the doors of death and becoming found family.

(I still think Percy should've killed Gaea imo and he was written off too quickly as not an option, especially when he was talking about killing Gaea w his bare hands or something like that so.) And finally at the end the camps (or whatever they'd consider themselves to be) finally uniting with the "death?" of Percy and his honorable sacrifice, the beginning of a new future, ambassadors being set up, facilities being built. All of the camps would unite maybe under an alliance, one more step to the actual safety of demigods (now that they're being claimed).

I dunno it sounds sort of cool since Greece and their history is really crazy, so bringing it all together against one of the strongest primordial beings, fixing what's broken, bringing hope for new generation of demigods is just wow.

As I'm writing this, I honestly could do something for the Byzantine Empire as far as including them, I'd just make them more like the Egyptian Magicians compared to demigods.

As for how they'd meet for the first time, that's a little complicated, especially because having five leaders or people from five separate camps seems a little too much.

Maybe the quest would go as normal but like at the beginning it's just Jason, Percy, Hazel, and Annabeth (maybe not "officially" being apart of the Seven but instead just being there for the Mark of Athena? I just feel like Hazel would only really work as apart of the Greco-Roman pantheon just because of her backstory directly relating to Gaea like it does so I wouldn't be able to revamp her character and drop her in another pantheon) traveling to pick up the rest of Seven.

Anyways I've been writing this for twenty minutes so I think I'll stop lol.

Had an idea and had to write it out (based on the idea explained here: https://www.tumblr.com/juniorig0327/760642994531713024/demigods-and-domains?source=share)

Percy spit out about a mouthful of teeth on the ground, clutching his sword. He glanced behind him to see Michael clutching his shoulder and then turned back at the titan Hyperion. Faster than he could blink, Hyperion turned into a ball of light and there was a cut opening up on his side and Hyperion was behind him.

“I honestly don’t know why step dad is so interested in you. You’re still way too weak.” Hyperion sneered at him, practically fidgeting with his sword and not sparing a second glance.

“You don’t have any nature spirits to help you, not this time Jackson.”

Percy grit his teeth. Fighting a titan was not on his Tartarus bingo card but it seems a lot of things that happened down here weren't on his bingo card. Frankly, he was getting frustrated. After what he did to Ahkyls, he told himself he wasn’t going to use his powers for things that weren’t natural, but when he looked at Hyperion and the injured Michael Yew behind him, quickly losing blood he knew he had a choice to make. Maybe he did this action out of guilt, out of a desperation to finally save someone, to have a clear conscience (he knew that wasn’t it – another excuse), or maybe he just had enough. Ever since he did what he did his power itched to be let out, it was uncontrollable (acting on its own?– no that doesn’t make sense).

It’s safe to say when he finally snapped out of his mind and let loose, it was conveniently when Hyperion bursted into a walking fire, only recognizable by his armor and helmet. It’s also safe to say not even Hyperion was able to comprehend what happened when his entire body just… stopped.

The flames were still and Percy had his arm stretched out but no, this wasn’t blood or water or anything like that. He couldn’t feel the churning in his gut, all he felt was a burning tingling feeling rushing up his arm.

“What…?” Percy looked at his arm in wonder. He looked up at Hyperion to see he was struggling with… something.

“What did you do, demigod?! You’re a son of Poseidon! What d–”

A sharp echoing laugh boomed throughout Tartarus. A shadowy, dirty looking figure formed from the ground in armor. “Well well well Perseus! I did not expect for your domains to have evolved this quickly. What have you been doing to that poor Phlegethon?” Percy’s head shot behind and as soon as he saw him (it? He didn’t know and he wasn’t in the state of mind to think on that) fear seemed to latch on and fuel every part of his body.

“No need for fear. I just wanted to check your progress, Grandson.”

“‘M not your grandson.” He said with a shaky voice.

“Of course not, but adding all those greats is definitely not convenient, Perseus. I’m proud of you. I didn’t think you’d expand your domain again so quickly. I have to say I am very intrigued. How far do you think you could go? If this is it for just a puny demigod what would happen if it was your precious Annabeth? Or maybe Nico, he was a fine specimen to experiment with for a while but unfortunately he was more of a sad pet. But you–” Percy imagined if Tartarus had eyes they’d be looking him up and down right now. He let out an audible gulp. His fear quickly switched to rage after his brain caught up with what he(it? whatever) said. He was talking about Nico like he was some sort of pet, like a human experiment. And not to mention him threatening Annabeth? The fear in his gut was replaced by a flare of rage.

“Have all this darkness within you. Perseus – to destroy – fitting is it not? Such raging darkness in a son of Poseidon is…unusual. I want to see what you can become.” Tartarus raised its hand(?), “Come Hyperion, let him be won’t you? After all the work he’s put in, I wouldn't want his reunion with his friend to be cut so short, at least for now.” Percy looked back at Michael and rushed towards him, ripping the sleeve of his shirt to try and help him. “You can sink your teeth into him later,” Hyperion only let out a grunt but by the way he felt a gaze into the core of his soul, he had a feeling Tartarus was talking to him “You bleed red with traces of gold in them Grandson. I wonder what awaits. Will you bleed gold ichor, or vanish in a blaze of golden dust?”

The implication sent shivers up his shine. Honestly, that explained a lot. Michael never explained why he had dark fingertips and unusual sharp nails. As Tartarus and Hyperion left like they were never there, Percy picked up Michael and started heading towards the Phlegethon. He had to get out of his place and back up to the seven and Annabeth ASAP. Percy already felt like a monster for all the people that died for him, for leading them to their deaths, for leaving Annabeth all alone (Just like Luke the voice deep within his head reminds him) he wasn’t interested in becoming a literal one too, no fucking way.

=Tips for writers=

I used to be a really passionate writer and really enjoyed crafting language but it's been years since I've written anything that's not for school. I really want to start writing again but I don't have any story ideas that I'm excited about. What should I do to start writing again?

When you want to start writing again, but aren’t sure how to start:

1. Read a variety of books.

Various authors, various genres, the more you expand your examples the better because it means exposure to more ideas. Don’t be afraid to take up books you may not like since there’s a great deal of learning to be found in why you dislike something, and the depth it gets you thinking can help contribute to your own ideas. The “spite write” is also a thing, where you hate something, or some part of a thing, so much that you go off and do it yourself.

2. Engage with a writing community.

Every writer likes a different level of engagement, but writing communities can be extra helpful at providing idea discussion. It’s also okay if it takes a while for you to find the right one. Some writers are happy with the ones that are for pure fun and keep away from real critique whereas others want detailed critiques and a push to be better. The community you’re part of needs to align with your goals for writing.

3. Write what you know… so know interesting things.

Blatantly stolen from my own TbaBW post, but if you think your life is too boring for inspiration or you want to write about something but don’t know how, then get yourself out there and learn. Find new experiences, ask willing people about their lives, try new things even if you aren’t sure about them, research new subjects; increase your inspiration and well of knowledge so you can write what you know. You’re limited by your own knowledge and creativity, so work hard to make sure that limit does not exist.

4. Find prompts or guided writing exercises.

A lot of writers use prompts or guided exercises to get their writer's muscles moving. Aside from providing the base idea for you, they don’t require commitment and are just a form of practice, but can be turned into more polished stories if it really works out. The best use of these isn’t just reading them and deciding if you instantly like it or not, but taking some time to really think about how they can unfold.

5. Brainstorm.

While there are times when ideas just come to you, it’s common for creative people to have to brainstorm and put real effort into coming up with decent ideas. Brainstorming activities can look like, but aren’t limited to:

Inspiration from music. Some songs tell stories, some paint a scene, some capture a mood, and some are just good background music. Listening to music can be a good source of inspiration for writing.

Talk it out. Ask your friend and family what kind of stories they like to hear and why, or ask them anything about stories that you think will get them to talk. You may not want to write those exact things, but the dialogue can get some ideas thrown out there.

Inspiration from art. Similar to music, take a look at paintings, sketches, or maybe even dances that can provide something. Especially pay attention to the details and what the artist could potentially by trying to convey.

6. Productivity can be worked on.

Most writers naturally go through a cycle of interest and disinterest in their projects or even writing in general. I have these linked posts for general info on increasing productivity:

You may also want to check out the Motivation and Discipline tag since there’s a lot of info related to productivity and getting back into writing, especially when you aren’t feeling so great about it.

7. Don’t be afraid of not being great.

It’s been a while since you’ve written and it’s normal for skills to get rusty. Your skills before may not even have been where you wanted to be, but all you can do is compare yourself to where you once were rather than other writers. Writing is personal journey and can be a tough skill to build, so don’t beat yourself up if you have trouble. You have to be bad at something before you’re good at it.

Good luck with your writing!
