They make each other worse - in a sweet way. Sarah is very, very done with their hijinks.
How to cheer up a vampire who deals with the pain of immortal existence by crying and bedrotting instead of binge-drinking (arterial blood) and building cults and evil empires.
Quick sketch of my newest vampire. Unlike Pierce, October is a classic toxic heartthrob vampire with broody antihero problems, a long, bad history with damsels, and he rides a motorbike. In black leather clothes. Oh, geez.
He and Pierce are blood-feuding rivals.
Well, to be clear, October is out to get Pierce, but Pierce has a bit of a weak spot for people who hate him, as it were, so it's a one-sided relationship. On both sides.

Prompt 11, OC at age 5. Here's Pierce at ages 5, 15, and 25:
Kiddie Pierce (though Pierce was not his name back then) had a nice, spoiled childhood, he only looks like that because they wouldn't let him hold his favourite rat while posing for his portrait - children often had long hair in his time, like this painting of Winston Churchill.
In his teens, Oscar Wilde had long hair, so so did he. Maybe we can convince him to wear his hair long again, at age 150.
25 was the year he became the vampire Pierce.
I swear I'll return for the rest of the prompts! I really want to draw Phantom cats again, but my brain won't leave me alone right now.

1. Pockets. Pierce carried a little scent bottle of dirt because vampires need to rest in home soil, I like to think it's like a comfort object. Also, tiny rat cookies he probably forgot about. Sarah has her folding knife with 100 different tools in them, mostly pointy stabby things. Cat often doesn't have pockets because she wears impractical clothes.
2. Bag/purse. Pierce has a little chainmail rat purse. It's full of spare change and the odd antique gold coin. Sarah's is full of murdery things like travel-sized stakes and lipstick. Cat is unpredictable but totes food like a hamster.
5. Closet. Pierce has a lot of grey and white suits and fancy waistcoats. He also has many skeletons and straw hats, but we don't talk about those. Sarah has ball gowns, walking suits, and riding habits all in black. Cat describes her wardrobe as "if a hoard of goblins are set loose in an alt thrift store."
6. Bedside drawer. Pierce technically doesn't sleep in his bed, but he does lie there when his partners want him to, and he reads the novels he keeps in the drawer until they falls asleep and he can go around his nocturnal vampire business. Sarah keeps a crucifix, a revolver with silver bullets and another with regular ones, matches and magazines. Cat keeps candles, pen and paper, sweets and her ebook.
7. Medicine cabinet. Pierce and Sarah both keep brandy in their medicine cabinets like good Victorians. Cat has more modern amenities and chocolates for emergencies.
8. Wallet. I have the feeling Pierce is always losing his. Sarah, no-nonsense coins and the odd cheque. Cat's is stuffed with old receipts and always short on change.
9. Junk drawer. Pierce has a lot of half-written love letters and probably some hate mail he couldn't bring himself to burn. Sarah doesn't have one. Cat's whole flat is basically a junk drawer.
10. Pantry. Pierce and Cat live in the same house (he's her landlord) and Pierce isn't the kind of vampire to keep dead bodies around, so the pantry is full of Cat's doubtful food shopping choices. Sarah lives in a small flat with no pantry
13. To-do list. Pierce: Meet clients and kill people. Sarah: Meet clients and kill people and possibly go shopping. Cat doesn't have one because she is a chaos gremlin.
15. Bookcase. Pierce: Many Victorian banned and censored books, some vinyls, little statuettes, and old letters. Sarah: Old magazines and religious texts, very pompous but dusty, sometimes used for throwing at vampires in a pinch. Cat: enough candles to be a fire hazard, novels, huge art exhibition catalogues
It's the gang of chicken summoners! They're probably bad at it because I can't find the bloody vampire chicken, so they get a dead one.
My smol Pierce looks like a hamster, Erik has a new mask, and @vladimirsangel 's Aurik is holding onto Erik to stop him faceplanting - that mask is heavy.

Guess what suckers, my application to be the lady lead in a novel has been rejected again. Maybe because I tormented the gentleman lead for wearing a dark t-shirt and jeans.

(In all seriousness, I have nothing against people who dress like this. What gets on my nerves is that there is only one type of "attractive" on the fiction market. It's true, "don't like don't read," but I'm having a hard time finding writing I do like because they're all copycats of each other - yet they all try to frame those leads as "special," "The One," "the Exception," "he's not just A Guy" - actual phrasing I've seen in an actual publication - and it just gets tiring and puts me in a sarcastic mood.)
You'll tell them, Pierce. Show them those, um, ballet flats.

A loud thud came from the forbidden attic, followed by the ear-splitting clanging of silverware falling to the ground. Someone was singing, a fine contralto voice delivering a musical stream of abuses aimed at bread pudding.

My Erik is very talkative. I also had to take care to make him more gremlin, since he's often too wise and sad.
I think a lot about how Madeline swore to change when it's too late. Maybe it wouldn't have been different anyway. Maybe it would have been too late even if Erik didn't leave that night.

Doomed by the narrative.
They doomed themselves and each other. They treated each other like monsters and believed themselves to be monsters.
The "monster or human" narrative is one of the central conflicts of the story. Were we made wrong, or did we lose our souls somewhere along the way? What happens when you believe you are a monster?
Before I worry anyone unduly, my well-being is, well, quite well. A reason I hesitate to post my writing is that I'm worried I'll make people concerned - yes, a lot of it is based on experience, but it's gothic fiction and I paint it darker than it is. Also, I have a gremlin in my brain that screams, "MAKE IT WEIRDER!" A weird imagination is the side effect of growing up feeding on novels, don't read too much into it.
Welp, I suppose we'll soon know just how weird it is, if I don't chicken out and actaully release the creepy lil creature into the internet.
For someone who claims to be a vampire, I react very badly to getting my blood sample taken. Once, I looked so horrified that the nurse was afraid I'd faint and gave me a juice box.
So when I was editing this story just now, I was squirming in my seat. (This is not the worst scene. The other one is a spoiler, so wait a few weeks - if you actually want to suffer through it, that is, and if I actually stick to my plan). That probably means I've done my job well, but WHY did I do this to myself?

Well. Unless this little doofus has better ideas, Tale One is complete - that is to say, it has a beginning and an end and a relatively coherent plot in between. That's a victory for me!
I have to delete so much stuff... too many long talking scenes about the meaning of life and such. I don't know how it happened, and I'm eager for it to un-happen.
Am trying to trim down a monstrosity of a manuscript. In the meantime, enjoy some of my Best Writer Brainrot Moments.

Tagged by @thesongistheriver - who is also being very kind and beta-reading my current WIP. My first ever long-form Merlin fanfiction. I had posted an earlier version of the first chapter on AO3 a while back, but took it down when I realised I wanted to expand it more and write a decent chunk before uploading :-)
This line is taken from a scene where Merlin encounters the Triple Goddess during a quest through the spirit world. The forms disappear, the mother last... and the line is:

WIP. One of Cleopatra's occupations is portrait commissions for vampires who can't see their reflections. Pierce is a born model.
Proud of my Regency Era furniture (and my humans), though something still seems a little wonky. I don't know much by way of perspective or proportion, so that's one of the skills I hope to improve this year.
