okay adding on to this cuz Fizz has piercings, i just didn't add them on to the original drawing cuz it slipped my mind as i was sketching them, so...

i study biology and i get really clumsy in the lab and when i do field work, so i imagine that someone who works in physics would also have some scars from lab work. i honestly get so excited when Phys does sciencey smart things in the story cuz i am a whole entire nerd. with my whole being.

so @chihirolovebot 's sleep awake has been living rent free in my brain since i found it a week and a half ago, and i wanted to make my own Phys, and i'm actually proud of the results! i had a few ideas floating around my head, but every time is see Phys, my brain goes to Fizz, so that's the name i have on the character. idk if that's weird or not, but oh well.

no rendering but only because i want to get this out and i'm impatient. maybe i'll post this with clean line art and rendering, and maybe even a proper background. also i imagine they have piercings, i just didn't draw them (rip).

seriously, this has been living rent free in my brain for a week, and i'm in love with sleep awake. it's so thoughtful and all the characters feel like they could be canon. i adore the changes to the storyline too. i don't have enough words to describe how giddy this story makes me!!!

anywhore, before i end this, i have a few other sketches to share, that, idk, maybe people would like to see:

these ones focus on an idea that Fizz is the mastermind. the first one is just a general mastermind concept (with shoes being the bane of my existence), and the second one was like if Fizz was the mastermind and also had been a part of DICE and was maybe responsible for the tragedy we see in Ouma's motive video, and with Fizz being the mastermind, they purposely left out those memories from Ouma, or whatever, i'm talking out of my ass tbh.

and i just finished this little comic, but i'm not good at drawing comics... so... enjoy?:

anyway, physouma brainrot is real.

"dont die" is my favorite thing to tell people when they say theyre gonna go do something. going to the store? dont die. going to the bathroom? don't die. going to Mars? don't die. going to write an email? don't die. driving to the gas station? don't die. it fits every situation except for maybe a funeral visitation because then i think thatd be a little bit rude

The first nickname appears when you’re five years old.

It’s a graceful, scrawling cursive printed just above your heart. Ribbons of ink curled over your skin as if you’d taken a pen and scribbled across your chest.

You can’t read it, of course. Can only trace the lettering with clumsy fingers and wide eyes, warmth tingling beneath your fingertips as if an electric current thrummed beneath your skin. And in the most simple of ways you know this is yours.

Kokichi spares you a look that comes across at a halfway point between bored and amused. "Is that so?"

"Yeah!" You're sort of on a roll now; the busy park and all its pairs of eyes seem to sort of melt away as you crane your neck up to look at the rides; they make colourful curves against the sky, huge and metal and hulking. They're beautiful creations of physics. You could honestly look for hours without getting bored.

"Mm, I don't trust them," Kokichi yawns. "Like, what if they decide they get sick of me and toss me out mid-ride?"

"Oh, uh, that wouldn't happen!" you hasten to assure him. "See, rollercoasters work on kinetic energy, since they don't have engines or anything. Basically, they use a lift or cable to haul them up the first hill, which builds up a supply of potential energy—the longer the climb, the more energy is stored, you see? When the rollercoaster goes down, that stored energy is released as kinetic energy, which gets the carriage up the next hill without the need for a cable!"

You stammer to a halt, suddenly conscious you've been talking for a good minute. Kokichi looks over at you, all focused eyes. If you didn't know any better, you'd think he looked a tad flushed.

"I love it when you talk physics to me, beloved," he says, fluttering his lashes. You feel heat flood your face.

"Oh, just... stop it," you say weakly. "C'mon, I wanna go on this one."

Kokichi eyes the thing warily. "I'm... y'know, I just realised, I'm probably too short! Gosh! Darn it!"

"You're five-foot-one, not a toddler." You curl your fingers around his wrist and pull him impatiently. "Come on."

Kokichi looks down at your joined hands thoughtfully, then shrugs. "Fine! But you owe me. I want a slushie after we're off."

"Sure thing."

"Like, literally the biggest slushie you've ever seen. Grape flavoured."

"I expected nothing less."

the classic "are you hurt?" but the whumpee is the one saying it. slurring the words through a hoarse throat and numbed lips, their eyes are glazed and their hands are shaking, frantic at the blood soaking the caretaker's shirt and too delirious to realize it's all their own.

some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.

Fanfiction Authors: HEADS UP

An astute reader informed me this morning that one of my fics (Children of the Future Age) had been pirated and was being sold as a novel on Amazon:

(And they weren't even creative with their cover design. If you're going to pirate something that I spent a full year of my life writing, at least give me a pretty screenshot to brag about later. Seriously.)

I promptly filed a DMCA complaint to have it removed, but I checked out the company that put it up -- Plush Books -- and it looks like A LOT of their books are pirated fic. They are by no means the only ones doing this, either -- the fact that """publishers""" can download stories from AO3 in ebook format and then reupload them to Amazon in just a few clicks makes fic piracy a common problem. There are a whole host of reasons why letting this continue is bad -- including actual legal risk to fanfiction archives -- but basically:

IF YOU ARE A FANFIC AUTHOR WITH LONG AND/OR POPULAR WORKS, PLEASE CHECK AMAZON TO SEE IF YOUR STORIES HAVE BEEN PIRATED.

You can search for your fics by title, or by text from the description (which is often just copied wholesale from AO3 as well). If you find that someone has stolen your work and is selling it as their own, you can lodge a DMCA complaint (Amazon.com/USA site; other countries have different systems). If you haven't done this before, it's easy! Here's a tutorial:

HOW TO FILE A COPYRIGHT COMPLAINT FOR STOLEN WORK ON AMAZON.COM:

First, go to this form. You'll need to be signed into your Amazon account.

Select the radio buttons/dropdown options (shown below) to indicate that you are the legal Rights Owner, you have a copyright concern, and it is about a pirated product.

Enter the name of your story in the Name of Brand field.

In the Link to the Copyrighted Work box, enter a link to the story on AO3 or whatever site your work is posted on.

In the Additional Information box, explain that you are the author of the work and it is being sold without your permission. That's all you really need. If you want, you can include additional information that might be helpful in establishing the validity of your claim, but you don't have to go into great detail. You can simply write something like this:

I am the author of this work, which is being sold by [publisher] without my permission. I originally published this story in [date/year] on [name of site], and have provided a link to the original above. On request, I can provide documentation proving that I am the owner of the account that originally posted this story.

In the ASIN/ISBN-10 field, copy and paste the ID number from the pirated copy's URL. You'll find this ten-digit number in the Amazon URL after the word "product," as in the screenshot below. (If the URL extends beyond this number, you can ignore everything from the question mark on.) Once this number has been added, Amazon will pull the product information automatically and add it to the complaint form, so you can check the listing title and make sure it's correct.

Finally, add your contact information to the relevant fields, check the "I have read and accept the statements" box, and then click Submit. You should receive an email confirmation that Amazon has received the form.

Please share this information with your writer friends, keep an eye out for/report pirated works, and help us keep fanfiction free and legally protected!

Saw my first post with someone admitting they used chatGPT to ‘write a fic’ which they then shared here on tumblr and on Ao3.

To be clear, using AI to churn out a piece of fiction is not writing.

Using a bot (possibly one that was trained using a scrape of Ao3, that is to say, the theft of work from every writer who has posted their work on Ao3) is NOT WRITING.

It is theft. It isn’t creation. It’s a regurgitation of the consumed collective work and effort and heart and time of every writer who has shared their work on Ao3.

‘I’m not a good writer’ is no excuse.

Want to be a writer? Put in the time everyone else does to practice.

Don’t feel confident in your work? Open yourself up to the same vulnerability and risk that the rest of us do.

You don’t get to use a fucking bot to vomit out an approximation of a story and pretend you’ve got skin in the game.

The sad thing? This bot-assembled fic wasn’t bad. It was bland, but it had internal logic, some passing context to character and canon. It wasn’t like those early AI art pieces that had surreal compositions and extra fingers. It wasn’t immediately obvious it was made by a bot.

In this instance the person who posted it admitted they had used a bot. Which, actually, I have some respect for. But it probably isn’t the first and it won’t be the last.

I don’t know that there’s a solution to this, but it is both hurting my heart and enraging me.
